QUESTION:
I just updated my version of the program with the new Mac OS X version, and now my old Classroom Management System (CMS) password won't work. What should I do?
SYMPTOMS:
- Updating to the new Mac OS X version of a program causes the old CMS password not to work.
ANSWER:
When a new CMS workstation is installed to a computer, the default password is always "Larson." Try entering "Larson" as the password. After logging on to the CMS, it is possible to change the password for that workstation.
If "Larson" does not work, it is likely that the old workstation was not removed prior to installing the new version. Correct this by doing one of the following.
- Remove the CMS from the workstation by deleting the entire "Larson's x CMS" folder from the local hard drive, where "x" represents the product name. Then, reinstall the CMS to the workstation from the server. Now, the password for the CMS on that workstation is "Larson." After logging on to the CMS, it is possible to change the password for that workstation.
Removing the CMS from a workstation will not affect the student data, which is stored on a network server.
- Manually modify the password in the preference file on the workstation.
- Locate and open the "filename.ini" or "filename Preferences" file located on the local hard drive, where filename is the name of a file. This file can be opened with a text editor.
- Windows® users -
- Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
- Navigate to the CMS folder. If the default location was used during installation, the CMS folder will be at the following location: "C:\Program Files\Larson's x CMS", where "C" is the local hard drive and "x" is the product title.
- Navigate to the "prefs" folder.
- Open the "filename.ini" file, where "filename" is the name of the ".ini" file.
- Macintosh® users -
- On the desktop, double-click the icon of the drive partition to which the program was installed.
- Navigate to the CMS folder.
- Open the "filename CMS Preferences" file, where "filename" is the name of the file.
- Set "gPassword" equal to "qfwxts." That line should say "gPassword=qfwxts".
- Now the CMS password for that workstation is "Larson." After logging on to the CMS, it is possible to change the password for that workstation.
