QUESTION:
I can't install the program. I keep getting error messages. What do I do?
SYMPTOMS:
- Error messages occur while trying to install the program to the server.
- Error messages occur while trying to install a workstation.
ANSWER:
If the network installation cannot be completed, try the following.
- Shut down the computer. Then, turn it back on and try to install again.
- Windows® users must verify that they have the network drive mapped to the server location where the program is to be installed. The drive must be mapped through My Computer. It cannot be accessed through Network Neighborhood or My Network Places.
- The person who is running the installation must have write permissions to the folder on the server where the program is to be installed. Contact your network administrator to make sure that you do have write permissions to the folder.
- There may not be enough free space on the server drive where the program is to be installed. Check the installation instructions for the amount of space needed and make sure that there is enough free space. If you are unsure, contact your network administrator to find out the exact amount of free space.
- Some networks are set up so that each user can only install a certain amount of content to the server. If there is enough space on the drive, but the install still fails, check with your network administrator to find out if there are any user restrictions.
- If the network installation quits at the exact same file every time, then a bad disk could be at fault. Please note which disk is in the drive, the file on which the installation stops, and the exact text of the error message. Then contact technical support.
If the workstation installation cannot be completed, try the following.
- An administrative user who has permission to install programs on workstations must install the student program on the workstations. If you are not an administrative user or if you do not know what your permissions are, contact your network administrator.
- If the program can not be installed on any workstation, there may be corrupt workstation installation files on the server. Try reinstalling the program to the server. To do this, remove the existing program files on the server and run the network installation again. Now, run the workstation installation again.
- Macintosh® users: If Macintosh® Manager is being used, contact technical support to request specific instructions for installation with Macintosh® Manager. Please note the version number of the server's operating system, the version number of the workstation's operating systems, and the version of Macintosh® Manager.
