QUESTIONS:
Is there a way to enter students into the Classroom Management System (CMS) by using an existing file that has all of the students' names?

How should a roster be formatted if I want to import it into the Classroom Management System (CMS)?

How do I import students?

ANSWER:
The CMS can use comma-delimited text files, with a ".txt" extension, of student names as rosters. There must be one name per line within the file. After the file is created, use the Utilities in the CMS to import students.

It is simple to create a roster from an Excel® spreadsheet. (If the student names are already entered into a spreadsheet, skip steps one and two.)

  1. Open a new worksheet in Excel®.
  2. In each row, enter a student's last name in the first column and the first name in the second column.
  3. After all of the names have been entered, select Save As from the "File" menu.
  4. Select CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv) from the "Save as type:" drop-down box.
  5. Enter an appropriate name in the "File name:" input box.
  6. Click Save. Note the location to which you are saving the file.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Yes.
  9. Locate the file that was just created.
  10. Change the file extension from ".csv" to ".txt" by renaming the file. To learn how to rename a file, please refer to the links below.
    Windows® | Macintosh®
  11. Click OK.

For more information about importing students, refer to the Teacher's Resource Guide. A printed version of the guide is distributed with each product. An electronic version is also available. Use the Documentation menu to learn how to access the electronic version.
