QUESTION:
I have the program installed to workstations that have varying operating systems. The program works on some and not on others. What is wrong?
SYMPTOM:
- The program is installed on computers with varying operating systems. The program works on some of the computers and not on others.
ANSWER:
This situation occurs on newer operating systems when the students are restricted users on the client machine. This may be the cause if one or both of the following is true:
- Students can run the program on an older operating system but not on a newer operating system. For example, they can run the program on Windows® 98 but not on Windows® XP, or they can run it on Mac® OS 9 but not on Mac® OS X.
- When logged in as an administrative user, the program can be run. When logged in as a student, the program cannot be run.
To fix this issue, give the students full control of the program folder and all of its contents on the local hard drive of each machine. The program folder is entitled with the name of the product. The students must have full permissions to this folder in order to run the program as a restricted user.
