ISSUE:
Running the program causes the error message, "The student data files are missing. Check that the network drive where the Larson's Math Series student data files are stored is mounted. Student Data Path = P:\path to folder\lmsindex\," where "P" is the name of a mapped drive and "path to folder" is the path to the "lmsindex" folder.

SYMPTOM:

RESOLUTION:

  1. This error can occur if a student data folder on the network server has been moved, deleted, or renamed. Verify that the student data folder actually exists in the location where the program is trying to find it.
    1. Find the path that the workstation is using to find the student data.
      1. If the path is in the error message, open the student program to view the error message again. Write down the student data path.
      2. If the path is not in the error message, locate and open the "lms.ini" or "LMS Preferences" file located on the local hard drive. The path to the student data is located after "gStatPath=".
        • Windows® users -
          1. Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
          2. Navigate to the CMS folder. If the default location was used during installation, the CMS folder will be at the following location: "C:\Program Files\Larson's Math Series CMS", where "C" is the local hard drive.
          3. Navigate to the "prefs" folder.
          4. Open the "lms.ini".
        • Macintosh® users -
          1. On the desktop, double-click the icon of the drive partition to which the program was installed.
          2. Navigate to the CMS folder.
          3. Open the "LMS Preferences" file.
    2. Follow the student data path that was located in step a to find the student data folder on the server.
      • Windows® users -
        1. Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
        2. Locate the drive letter as indicated in the student data path.
        3. Open each of the folders listed in the order in which they appear in the student data path.
      • Macintosh® users -
        1. On the desktop, double-click the icon of the sharepoint to which the program was installed.
        2. Open each of the folders listed in the order in which they appear in the student data path.
    3. If the student data folder is not there, do one of the following.
      1. Search the server for the student data folder.
        1. If found, move it to the place indicated in the "lms.ini" or "LMS Preferences" file.
        2. Log on to the student program and see if the error still occurs.
Moving this folder may cause the error message to appear on other workstations. If this happens, open the "lms.ini" or "LMS Preferences" file on those workstations and edit the "gStatPath=" to point to the new location.
      2. If there is a back-up of the student data folder, make a copy of this back-up and put it in the appropriate location on the server.
      3. Reinstall the program to the network and workstations.
  2. The network drive on which the program files are installed must be mapped/mounted on the desktop of each workstation. If it is not, then this error will occur. The drive must be mapped/mounted before using the program. Use the links below to find out how to map/mount network drives. Larson Learning Inc. is in no way affiliated with any of these sites and cannot guarantee the accuracy of the content contained therein.
  3. The drive/sharepoint must be mapped/mounted such that students and teachers will access that drive/sharepoint in the same way as the person who installed the program.

For example, if the person who installs the program has access to all files and folders on a certain partition of a server and teachers and students only have access to a "Larson" folder on that server partition, then the path that the program will use to find the program files on the network will include extra path information that will prohibit the program from working when a teacher or student tries to run it. Looking at the examples below, it is clear that the program as run by the teacher or student will not be able to find the application files it needs since the path is incomplete.

    Person who installed the program:
    L:\Application Information\Larson\Larson Math Series\lmsprog\

    Teacher or student:
    L:\Larson\Larson Math Series\lmsprog\
