ISSUE:
Logging on to the program causes the error message, "Unable to load movie playlist. Does the .INI file exist ‘[movies]’ with an entry ‘Movie01=pathname.dir’?".
SYMPTOM:
- Attempting to log on to the program causes the error message.
RESOLUTION:
This issue can occur if the path to the program files is over 128 characters long.
- Locate and open the "filename.ini" or "filenamePreferences" file located on the local hard drive, where "filename" is the name of the preference file. The path to the student data is located after "gStatPath=" or "gIndexFilePath=".
- Windows® users -
- Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.
- Navigate to the Classroom Management System (CMS) folder. If the default location was used during installation, the CMS folder will be at the following location: "C:\Program Files\Larson's x CMS", where "C" is the local hard drive and "x" is the product's name.
- Navigate to the "prefs" folder.
- Open the "filename.ini".
- Macintosh® users -
- On the desktop, double-click the icon of the drive partition to which the program was installed.
- Navigate to the Classroom Management System (CMS) folder.
- Open the "filenamePreferences" file.
- Count the number of characters in the path. Be sure to start with the mapped drive's/mounted sharepoint's name. Include all spaces and special characters, such as slashes, colons, and apostrophes.
- If the count is 128 or higher, there are two solutions.
- Map a drive/create a sharepoint that is closer to the program's location on the server.
- For example, let's say the path to the program folder is "P:\Ronald J Armstrong Academy\Mr Smyth Class\Educational Programs\Student Programs\Math Programs\Larson\Larson Math Series\lmsprog\." If the drive is mapped to/sharepoint is located at the "Larson" folder instead of to the "Ronald J Armstrong Academy" folder, the error will no longer occur since the path is now less than 128 characters.
- All workstations that use this program will need to have the new drive mapped/sharepoint created. Use the links below to find out how to map/mount network drives.

- Perform the workstation installation on each workstation. The program may need to be removed from any workstations on which the program had been previously installed.
- Move the program closer to the root of the mapped drive/mounted sharepoint.
- For example, let's say that the path to the program folder is "P:\Ronald J Armstrong Academy\Mr Smyth Class\Educational Programs\Student Programs\Math Programs\Larson\Larson Math Series\lmsprog\." Move the entire "Larson Math Series" folder into the "Mr Smyth Class" folder.
- Perform the workstation installation on each workstation. The program may need to be removed from any workstations on which the program had been previously installed.
- If the count is less than 128, reinstall the program to the server and workstations. If the error persists, ask your network administrator to verify that users have the proper permissions to the program folder. Teachers and students should have read only permission to the program folder.
